Senior Competition 2017

The 2017 Competition took place from March 26 – April 2, 2017.  27 Contestants participated in the Solo Preliminary Round; 18 Contestants participated in the Concerto Preliminary Round with 2nd Piano. All the contestants were amazing pianists. Audio CDs of all the solo preliminary round, semi-final round and most of the Concerto Preliminary Round with 2nd Piano are available for sale through the Waring office. $15 includes shipping and handling within the US.

Prize-Winners:

First Place Solo – Recital at Carnegie-Weill Hall in NYC, plus $10,000: Yi-Yang Chen from Taiwan

First Place Concerto – $10,000 – Baolong Zhang from China

Earl Wild Transcription Prize – $1,500 – Jiwon Han from South Korea

2nd Place Solo – $5,000 – Youkyoung Kim from South Korea

2nd Place Concerto – $5,000 – Stephanie Ng from USA

3rd Place Solo – $2,500 – Jiwon Han from South Korea

3rd Place Concerto – $2,500 – Youkyoung Kim from South Korea

Audience Favorite – $500 – Christopher Richardson

All rounds of the competition were open to the public. Preliminary rounds and master classes were free to the audience at the Indian Wells Theater, located on the campus of CSUSB-Palm Desert, 37-500 Cook St., Palm Desert, CA 92211

Solo Final required a $20 ticket;

Concerto Finals at the McCallum Theatre required a ticket, available only through www.McCallumTheatre.com (be sure and go only to this website to avoid “scalpers” – tickets ranged in price from $17 to $67.)
